A beautiful studio set created by Ged Clarke, to represent a Parisian apartment. A nice combination of classic French features, and a very contemporary interior. The backlit backdrop worked a treat, the right amount of overexposure adding the realism to pull off the effect. Classy camerawork from Tony Brown.
SORGENIA. I Have Never Seen. Paralympian, Bebe Vio, and some young supporters, educate us for the need to use green energy - before it is too late. Beautiful moody atmosphere around Lake Como in Northern Italy, just before the Coronavirus seriously impacted the people of the region. Sending them strength. Shot for Robiglio & Dematteis, Milano.
MSC The Fantastic Voyage
MSC. The Fantastic Voyage. A cruise round the Mediterranean, courtesy of the MSC Bellissima. A large shoot crew was impeccably looked after by the superb professionals aboard the Bellissima. It's not easy to make a story without seeing the 5000 paying customers joining us on the cruise! I wanted to make something that felt intimate but still had scale. For Leagas Delaney, London.
COTTAGES. Not Just.... A couple of cameras, a van, a Landrover Defender, plus a great, great group of people, pulled this little film together, putting in the miles crossing the length and breadth of the UK.
NESPRESSO. Nordic Festivity. Shot in fabulous Finland forests with Otto Films. I love the Finns - they have the most extraordinarily dry sense of humour, and an ability to render you baffled as to why we don't all live our lives like the Finns.
TELUNSU. The Perpetual Journey. Telunsu is the main brand of the premium milk surge in popularity in China. This spot features Chen Dao Ming and Jin Dong, two extremely popular screen actors in China. Shot for Balance Productions, Beijing, on the magnificent South Island of New Zealand.
ANTICA. La Dolce Vita. Antica make gelato, way nicer than ice cream, the idea being that because gelato - unlike ice cream - is not frozen, your taste buds don't freeze when in contact, thus being alive to experience way more flavour....Shot in Prague, for Ogilvy, Shanghai.
BASF. Utility Poles. German company BASF have manufactured a compound to make lightweight, but extremely robust, pylons to support infrastructure through nature's worst moments. Shot for the legendary Tim Delaney, in Cape Town and the north of Finland. We went from +40ºC to -20ºC in the space of two days. Wardrobe issues. For added irony, the storm set in CT genuinely got trashed a day before we shot, by a natural storm.
METRO. Business Day. Supporting small businesses locally and regionally. Shot with real owners of real businesses in Berlin and Zagreb. For BLM film in Hamburg.
BBC DOCUMENTARIES. The Mad Ones. Fantastic bit of prose from Kerouac's 'On The Road'. Shot is South London and Southend -on-sea. 35mm, for the BBC to promote their incredible documentary output.
NESPRESSO. The Inner Barista. We all fancy ourselves as a bit of a barista whizz. Drank a lot of coffee on this one. For JWT London.
Locations, stages, actors, real people, scripted, unscripted, big crews, flying solo - ultimately we're all telling stories of some kind. These are a few of my favourites
